More than 700 passengers were stranded at Norilsk Airport due to bad weather. This was announced on November 15 in the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Siberian Federal District on the VKontakte social network.
Earlier, a storm warning was issued in Norilsk. According to forecasts, wind gusts may reach 30 m/s. At the same time, all types of vehicles are temporarily restricted on the Norilsk-Kayerkan-Alykel and Dudinka-Alykel highways.
"Currently, there are over 700 passengers in the airport complex. A convoy of off—road vehicles is being sent to the airport to deliver passengers of delayed flights to the city of Norilsk," the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that the agency is taking measures to ensure law and order at the airport, the safety of passengers and the organization of their transportation to the city of Norilsk for subsequent accommodation in hotels.
The day before, several regional highways were blocked in the Murmansk region due to a heavy snowstorm. It was noted that the wind reached a speed of 25-30 m/s. It was reported that the passage for all vehicles was closed on the roads of Kola – Serebryanskie HPPs, the motorway access to Teriberka and Zapolyarny – Salmiyarvi. Traffic was also restricted for trucks on the Mishukovo–Snezhnogorsk and Snezhnogorsk–Gadzhievo highways. According to the airport's online scoreboard, about 20 flights were delayed during the day.
