- Estonia will allocate €3.5 million to Ukraine for the purchase of Starlink communication systems
Estonia will allocate €3.5 million for the purchase of Starlink communication systems for Ukraine as part of the IT coalition led by Tallinn and Luxembourg. This was announced on November 15 by the Ministry of Defense of the Baltic country.
The funds are allocated from the assistance package for Kiev for 2025. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur noted that Ukraine had requested support in providing satellite communications.
"This is extremely important assistance that will have a tangible effect on the battlefield," he said.
According to him, the need for Starlink has increased due to Kiev's plans to expand the use of drone units that require a stable high-speed connection.
Pevkur stressed that Ukraine "fights every day for the freedom of the whole of Europe," and the development of its IT capabilities increases "the chances of victory."
In 2024, Tallinn sent military support to Kiev for almost 0.3% of GDP, including training and IT assistance within the framework of the coalition.
Earlier, on November 13, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen said that Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden had announced a $500 million support package for Ukraine as part of the NATO-US Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. The funds will be used to purchase weapons and military materials from the United States, followed by their delivery to Kiev.
