Colombia has signed a contract worth €3.1 billion with Saab for the supply of 17 Jas Gripen fighter jets. This was reported on November 15 by the Forsvarets forum magazine.

It is specified that the delivery of aircraft is designed for the period 2026-2032.

Saab CEO Mikael Johansson noted that the agreement "will strengthen Colombia's defense and innovation potential." Swedish Minister of International Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dawza called the contract "one of the largest export agreements" of the country, emphasizing its importance for security and the economy.

Experts consider the purchase of Gripen as Bogota's attempt to reduce dependence on the aging fleet and strengthen its regional position amid rising tensions in Latin America. Colombian President Gustavo Petro previously announced his intention to upgrade the Air Force with modern aircraft.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced on October 22 that Ukraine will be able to receive more than a hundred new Swedish Gripen E fighter jets in the future, which will help strengthen the country's air Force. In addition, Kristersson added that the modernization of the Ukrainian Air Force is designed for 10-15 years.
