The US Congress may confiscate $2.5 billion of frozen Russian assets

In 2026-2028, the United States may confiscate half of the frozen Russian sovereign assets under the control of American jurisdiction, it was reported on November 15.

According to RIA Novosti, the total volume of these assets is estimated at $ 5 billion, which means the possibility of confiscation of about $ 2.5 billion in the event of the adoption of the bill REPO for Ukrainians Implementation Act of 2025.

"As the Congressional Budget Office suggests, there is a 50% chance that the federal government will do this (confiscate Russian assets — Ed.)," the department said.

In case of confiscation, about $300 million will be temporarily invested in securities of the US Treasury.
