Degtyarev proposed to create a single regulator of sports refereeing in the Russian Federation

In Russia, there are some problems in the field of sports refereeing, which can be solved by creating a single regulator in this area. This was announced on November 14 by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev during the first meeting of the Russian Olympic Committee commission on sports refereeing, which took place in Moscow.

"One of the possible solutions is to create a unified sports refereeing regulator, a register of sports referees, and strengthen their independence and professional qualities, including independence from sports federations," he said.

It is proposed to implement this as part of a large-scale reform of the sports industry. The Minister noted that sports refereeing is an integral part of sports. Professional sports are simply impossible without fair and transparent solutions.

At the same time, individual incidents in this area "become the focus of attention of the country's leadership and law enforcement agencies," which negatively affects the image of sports in Russia.

"Obviously, there is a demand in society to improve the quality of refereeing," Degtyarev said.

According to the chairman of the commission, Arkady Rotenberg, consistent but careful measures are needed, including the introduction of modern technologies.

Dmitry Kurbatov, the deputy chairman of the commission, also spoke about plans to create an independent body, the Chamber of Sports Refereeing.
