The Russian Embassy in Cambodia has warned of the risks of escalation with Thailand.
The Russian Embassy in Cambodia urged caution when visiting the country due to the risk of escalation with Thailand. This was reported to Izvestia on November 14 at the diplomatic mission in Phnom Penh.
"We urge Russian citizens to exercise caution when visiting provinces bordering Thailand," they said.
The ministry stressed that the Cambodian side is currently declaring its readiness to refrain from actions that could lead to the resumption of hostilities. However, the option of escalation cannot be ruled out, according to diplomats.
Earlier, on October 26, it was reported that the peace deal between Thailand and Cambodia, signed at the ASEAN summit in the presence of US President Donald Trump, was supposed to help de-escalate the conflict and strengthen trust between the countries. As part of the agreement, it was planned to withdraw heavy weapons from the border, establish joint mine clearance and improve control over border areas.
On November 10, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the suspension of the peace agreement with Cambodia, after two Thai soldiers were injured in a mine explosion on the border. According to him, the incident shows that hostility at the border has not decreased and further steps under the agreement are impossible until the circumstances are clarified.
