Switzerland has announced an agreement with the United States to reduce the 39% duty imposed by Washington on Swiss exports to 15%. This was announced on November 14 by the press service of the confederation government.

"Switzerland and the United States have successfully found a solution: US tariffs will be reduced to 15%. Thank you to President [of the United States Donald] Trump for constructive interaction," the publication says, posted on the Cabinet's page on the social network X (former. Twitter).

According to The New York Times, this was a sign of a softening of Washington's trade line after several months of pressure on Bern. The Swiss authorities stressed that the decision would reduce the cost of supplying "pharmaceuticals, gold, watches and chocolate" to the American market.

The American side confirmed the agreement, indicating that the details would be published later. According to U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer, the agreement provides for the deployment of Swiss production facilities in the United States, including projects "in the pharmaceutical industry, the manufacture of railway equipment and gold smelting." He noted that "their companies will build here," which should reduce Switzerland's trade surplus with the United States.

Experts note that Washington is thus seeking to redistribute production chains in its favor, while softening criticism of high prices within the country. Switzerland called the talks constructive, thanking the United States "for its cooperation."

Earlier, on November 10, US leader Donald Trump warned that Washington could be forced to return more than $2 trillion to trading partners if the duties imposed by his administration were found illegal by the Supreme Court.

On the same day, it was reported that Trump plans to use unused funds from payments to low- and middle-income citizens to reduce the national debt. According to him, revenue from tariffs imposed by the US administration on a number of countries is supposed to be used for the same purpose.
