Chery collided two Tiggo 9 crossovers with each other
As part of the demonstration of the safety level of the Tiggo 9 model, Chery conducted a crash test with two crossovers. The company's press service shared details about the test and personnel with Izvestia on November 14.
The event was held in the Chinese city of Wuhu. The crash test, as noted by the automaker, was modeled according to one of the most severe scenarios — a frontal collision with a small overlap at an angle of 15 °. This type of impact is considered extremely difficult for passive safety, since the main energy falls not on the spars, but on a limited area of the body. This puts a strain on the power structure and greatly increases the risk of deformation of the interior.
The company noted that, according to the engineers, the interiors of both cars retained full structural integrity without deforming the racks, and the security systems worked normally. The airbags opened correctly, the pre-tensioner belts worked on time, the fuel system remained airtight, and the doors opened effortlessly after the collision. The body of the Chery Tiggo 9 consists of 85% high-strength heat-formed steel, including 21% hot-forming elements.
The Chery Tiggo 9 crossover was introduced in Russia last December. The model is offered with an alternative two-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 245 hp in combination with an eight-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system. The price of the 2025 model starts from 4.05 million rubles.
The day before, it was reported that during the tests of the new Chery crossover in China, the staircase of Mount Tianmen, a tourist attraction also known as the "heavenly staircase", was damaged.
