Orban announced his intention to sue the EU over the refusal to buy Russian gas.
Hungary will sue the European Union (EU) over the decision to abandon Russian gas. This was announced on November 14 by Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the air of the Kossuth radio station.
"We do not accept this obviously illegal decision, contrary to European values, which was chosen by Brussels...> we are appealing to the European Court of Justice," Orban said.
He added that this is not about sanctions, but about trade regulation. He also noted that making decisions on trade policy requires the consent of all EU members, not a majority vote.
On October 16, a committee of the European Parliament (EP) supported a complete ban on the import of Russian gas and oil. On November 13, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States had given Hungary a one-year reprieve from sanctions against the purchase of oil and gas from Russia.
Political analyst Alexander Asafov told Izvestia on November 13 that the existing disagreements within the EU are becoming more noticeable. According to him, Hungary occupies a special position in the EU and has been building its own political course for a long time, which often contradicts the decisions of Brussels.
