In some regions of the country, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced due to adverse weather conditions. So, in the Murmansk region, due to heavy snowfall, gusty winds, blizzards and limited visibility, traffic has been stopped on two sections of the federal highway R-21 "Cola" since yesterday evening: from 1149 to 1382 km, and also from 1429 to 1510 km. In addition, for the same reasons, traffic on 5 more regional highways has been temporarily suspended in the region.
On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that motorists, when planning long-distance trips, first familiarize themselves with the weather forecast and media information about possible overlap sites, outlining detours in advance. In case of traffic restrictions or closure of road sections due to worsening weather, the relevant information is promptly posted on the website of the State Traffic Inspectorate, as well as on the official pages of the service units on social networks.
The ministry noted that with the onset of late autumn, one should be extremely careful when driving: avoid sudden rash maneuvers and realignments on roads slippery from rain, snow or ice, observe the interval and distance between vehicles, and do not exceed the set speed. It is important to install winter tires in a timely manner.
"Do not forget that in conditions of insufficient visibility, it is necessary to move with external lighting devices turned on, be sure to use fog lights, if available, and during precipitation, reduce speed as much as possible and move with the alarm lights on. In addition, if the weather worsens, we advise car owners to refrain from using personal vehicles whenever possible, and in urban conditions, temporarily switch to public transport," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
