Reuters has learned about the allocation of EU funds to Ukraine for gas supplies
Leading European banks and the Ukrainian company Naftogaz have signed an agreement to provide hundreds of millions of euros to ensure natural gas supplies to Ukraine. This was reported on November 13 by the Reuters news agency.
"In its statement, the EIB (European Investment Bank. — ed.), an EU credit institution, announced that the EU grant would provide Naftogaz with €127 million in additional financing in addition to the €300 billion loan it announced last month," the material says.
Gas imports into the country have increased due to damage to the country's energy system. Norway announced this year that it would finance Ukraine's natural gas purchases.
It is specified that a grant of € 25 million will be allocated — these funds will be spent on improving drinking water systems and sewage treatment plants. In addition, the EIB has allocated €50 million for the reconstruction of social housing.
Earlier in the day, the Politico newspaper predicted Ukraine's most difficult winter in the entire conflict period. It was noted that the situation in the country is complicated by the financial crisis, corruption scandals and the deteriorating situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the battlefield. Among other things, the publication pointed to serious problems in the Ukrainian energy sector.
On November 11, it became known that the Tripoli and Zmiev thermal power plants in the Kiev and Kharkiv regions of the country temporarily stopped working. The Ministry of Energy told about the damage to the facilities. Later it was reported that the shutdown of the thermal power plant caused a sharp reaction in the office of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky. After discussions, the company's initial publication was edited, adding language about recovery and elimination of consequences.
