Thai authorities, at the request of the United States, arrested a foreign citizen on the island of Phuket on suspicion of hacking attacks against government agencies in Europe and America, The Phuket Express reported on November 13.

According to Police Lieutenant General and CCIB Commissioner Surapola Prembutra, the hacker has earned fame among law enforcement agencies around the world. The man allegedly "penetrated highly secure systems and organized cyber attacks on a number of government agencies."

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has informed the Thai Bureau of Cybercrime (CCIB) about the suspect's presence on the island, sending a request for the man's extradition.

According to the Phuket News portal, the arrested man is a 35-year-old Russian. It is noted that he arrived in Thailand on October 30, 2025 through Phuket International Airport and checked into a hotel in Talang District. The Thai police worked with the Immigration Bureau, the Tourist Police, the Office of Forensic Investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office and local units to investigate and prepare for the arrest.

Authorities have obtained an arrest warrant under Thailand's Extradition Act of 2008. The suspect was declared a "foreign national wanted for extradition."

Before that, on September 11, The Register portal reported that the FBI and the European Union were looking for Ukrainian Volodymyr Tymoshchuk for cybercrimes against global companies. The FBI offered to pay up to $10 million for information about his whereabouts. It was clarified that Tymoshchuk's hacker group had attacked more than 250 American companies, however, unlike many of his accomplices, the Ukrainian has not yet been arrested or extradited. The Ukrainian hacker was also included in the list of the most wanted criminals in Europe. According to France, the damage from his group's activities amounted to $18 billion.
