- Peskov spoke about Moscow's reaction to the statements of the new prime Minister of Japan.
Russia is closely monitoring the statements of the new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the revision of the basic principles of the country's defense policy, including the nuclear-weapon-free status. This was announced on November 13 by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.
The uncertainty on this issue is worrying Moscow.
"Of course, we are monitoring, and, of course, [the uncertainty] is [worrying]," Peskov told TASS.
The opposition in parliament demanded that the prime minister confirm his commitment to the three non-nuclear principles of Japan's policy, but Takaichi evaded specific promises.
Earlier, on October 27, US President Donald Trump announced that he had received orders from Japan for the supply of military equipment. He stressed that such supplies will significantly increase the country's defense capabilities and contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation. Trump called the deal fair and beneficial for both sides, noting the importance of maintaining the strategic partnership between the United States and Japan in the field of security and defense.
