Russia and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum on the opening of joint schools
On November 12, Russia and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of intent to open joint schools in the two countries.
"Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov and Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhuldyz Suleimenova signed a memorandum of intent between the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to open Russian-Kazakh educational organizations in Russia, and Kazakh-Russian educational organizations in the Republic," the ceremony announced.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for supporting the Russian language in the republic. The Head of State noted that more than 55,000 Kazakhstanis study in Russia, half of them on a budgetary basis. He also added that Kazakh branches of many leading Russian universities, including Moscow State University and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), are successfully operating in Russia.
He stressed that, according to the Constitution, Russian has the official status, and its use in various spheres of life is supported by the leadership of the republic. According to the Russian leader, the Russian Federation is assisting in the construction of new Russian-language schools in Kazakhstan and improving the quality of education in Russian.
