Magnetic storms can cause headaches, irritability, and pressure surges in people, especially those who suffer from chronic illnesses. Olga Ryabenkova, Deputy Chief Physician for inpatient care, Head of the Department of Cardiology at the multidisciplinary clinic K+31 Lobachevsky, told Izvestia on November 12 how to minimize their impact on the body and maintain well-being during such periods.

According to the expert, the risk group includes hypertensive patients, patients with cardiovascular and neurological diseases, as well as people with low adaptation to environmental changes. The reaction to magnetic storms can manifest itself in the form of insomnia, increased drowsiness, joint and muscle pain, pressure surges and cardiac arrhythmias.

Ryabenkova stressed that magnetic storms often bring only mild fatigue and changes in emotional state to people with good health. However, in order to minimize the negative impact, it is important to prepare in advance.

"It is necessary to monitor weather forecasts and approaching magnetic storms for adequate and timely preparation, observe the regime (we are talking about healthy sleep, first of all), reduce physical activity during this period, minimize bad habits (alcohol, cigarettes, etc.), etc.," the doctor explained.

She added that even if these measures do not help to cope with the ailment, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible to select an individual treatment.
