- Mishustin spoke about the preparations for the launch of unmanned taxis in Moscow in 2026
The first unmanned taxi with a test driver in the cabin may appear in Moscow in 2026. This was announced on November 12 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at the plenary session of the Digital Solutions forum.
"The formation of a full-fledged land transportation market with such [unmanned] transport will undoubtedly continue. For example, commercial companies are working to launch the first unmanned taxis with a test driver in the cabin in the capital next year," Mishustin said.
He also recalled that in October, an autonomous passenger car had already made an independent trip from Tula to Moscow and back. At the same time, the test driver was in the car, but never interfered with the controls, the Prime Minister added.
The Head of government stressed that such technologies can only be used after testing and provided they are safe for citizens.
On September 3, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin took part in the launch of passenger traffic of Russia's first unmanned tram following route No. 10 of the Shchukinskaya metro station — Kulakova Street in the northwest of the city. The mayor noted that there will be 15 unmanned trams in 2026.
