Margarita Medvedeva, a legendary doctor who for many years was at the head of the current Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk region (then the Sverdlovsk City Health Department), died in Yekaterinburg at the age of 101. This was announced on November 12 on the department's page on the VKontakte social network.
The press service noted that Medvedeva left a big mark in the history of medicine in the region, devoting her entire life to helping people and saving their lives.
"A lot of medical institutions in Yekaterinburg appeared thanks to the incredible managerial courage and indefatigability of Margarita Mikhailovna. She retained her vital energy until the last moment. She turned 101 on September 13," said Tatiana Savinova, Deputy Governor and Minister of Health of the region.
Medvedeva received her education during the Great Patriotic War (WWII), at the same time she was mobilized to the labor front in the Omsk region. Later, she got a job at the All-Union Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology, evacuated to the Urals. In 1947, she graduated from the Sanitary and Hygienic Faculty of the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute.
"Her key role in eliminating the outbreak of anthrax in the Urals has left a special mark on history. This feat, bordering on heroism, forever inscribed her name in the annals of medicine," the portal notes. Ura.ru .
Medvedeva's contribution to the development of healthcare has been recognized with awards, including the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Excellent Healthcare Worker, For Services to the Sverdlovsk Region, III Degree, and for Services to the Veteran Movement. In 2016, she received the honorary title of "Daughter of the City — Daughter of Russia."
