- Moscow intends to promote a settlement in Transnistria contrary to the line of Chisinau
Despite the unconstructive approach of the Moldovan authorities, Russia is ready to contribute to the settlement process in Transnistria. This was announced on November 12 by the head of the Second Department of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexey Polishchuk.
The diplomat drew attention to the illegal actions of Chisinau during the September parliamentary elections in Moldova, when residents of the left bank lost the opportunity to vote. According to Polishchuk, such a policy "does not add optimism regarding the development of the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol."
"Despite such an unconstructive approach by Chisinau, the Russian side, as a guarantor and mediator in the settlement process, confirms its readiness to facilitate the restoration of dialogue between the banks of the Dniester," the head of the department said in a conversation with TASS.
On November 1, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov told Izvestia that Russia is open to dialogue on the status of Transnistria and sees no obstacles to its beginning. According to the diplomat, a serious and competent approach is needed in this matter, since such problems are not solved offhand. According to him, the conflict was connected with attempts to commit genocide against the Russian-speaking Russian population in Transnistria and was stopped by Russia.
