Auto expert dispelled the myth of low reliability of modern engines
Modern automobile engines have not lost their reliability compared to engines of previous generations and differ in that they are more technologically advanced and demanding. This was stated by Vadim Strelbitsky, Director of the Avilon Kia Mechanical Repair Department.
"Today, engines operate at higher loads and temperatures, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions, but at the same time reduces the safety margin in case of violations of maintenance regulations. Any deviation — low—quality fuel, untimely oil change, the use of unsuitable consumables — quickly affects the resource," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes the expert as saying on November 12.
According to the expert, modern engines are designed for precise operation of electronic systems, so even minor sensor malfunctions or intake contamination can lead to serious consequences. However, if a motorist follows all the manufacturer's recommendations and the "service culture", then the engine life can average 350 thousand km, and some turbo engines can last 400 thousand km.
The day before, car expert Yulia Trushkova said that the maximum mileage of a car is considered to be the one when investments in it begin to exceed the residual value of the car or become impractical. The average resource of a passenger gasoline car is 250-350 thousand km, the specialist said. For passenger cars with a diesel engine, this figure is slightly higher — 350-500 thousand km.
