The Ministry of Internal Affairs detained bankers who cashed out more than 1 billion rubles

Law enforcement agencies have suppressed the activities of an organized group suspected of illegal banking activities with a turnover of over 1 billion rubles. This was announced on November 12 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

"It has been previously established that the attackers developed a criminal scheme that operated on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan and the Moscow region," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

According to the investigation, the defendants used one-day firms to simulate commodity and money turnover. Funds were transferred from the accounts of a hotel owned by one of the suspects for fictitious deliveries of goods and services, followed by cashing out.

Volk clarified that the group charged a commission of up to 17% of the transaction amounts. The income of the criminal scheme exceeded 100 million rubles, and the total turnover was 1 billion rubles.

During the operation, two alleged organizers and their accomplice, who was responsible for the inter-regional transit of cash, were detained. During the searches, the security forces seized communications equipment, documentation, electronic media and computers. One of the detainees tried to throw his phone out the window, while another found an object that looked like a combat pistol.

A criminal case has been opened into the crime under Part 2 of Article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal banking activities"). Two of the defendants were placed under house arrest, and the third was banned from certain actions, Volk concluded.

Earlier that day, the Primorsky Krai Prosecutor's Office announced the suppression of a 47 million-ruble money laundering scheme. According to the investigation, in 2021, a contract was signed between the administration of the Oktyabrsky Municipal District and a contractor organization, according to which the reconstruction of the water supply system in the village of Pokrovka was to take place. Despite the fact that the actual amount of work amounted to 44 million rubles, the contractor demanded 91 million rubles.
