Australia has returned the site for the Russian Embassy
On November 12, the High Court of Australia recognized the law allowing the government to return the site for the construction of the Russian embassy in Canberra as valid. Now the country's authorities can dispose of the land where it was planned to build a new diplomatic mission. This is reported by SBS News.
The court ruled that Russia is entitled to compensation for the termination of the lease agreement and ordered the Australian government to pay half of the court costs of the Russian side.
"The High Court ruled in favor of the federal government, recognizing the laws as valid," the newspaper noted.
Earlier, on November 9, it was reported that Australia stopped direct purchases of Russian oil after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, but in 2023 imported more than 3 million tons of petroleum products through third countries, mainly through Singapore. This scheme made it possible to circumvent sanctions and was confirmed by the analysis of Kpler trade data and Crea research, on November 9th.
