Cough, fever, shortness of breath, chills, excessive sweating and general deterioration of well-being are the main symptoms of pneumonia. This was reported on November 12 in the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.

The agency explained to RIA Novosti that pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung tissue, which most often occurs due to the ingestion of infectious pathogens into the respiratory tract - bacteria, viruses or fungi. The disease can be either independent or a complication of other infections, including influenza and coronavirus.

"This disease is most severe in the elderly and people with concomitant diseases. Timely immunization against pneumococcal and hemophilic infections, influenza, measles, and whooping cough is the most effective means of preventing pneumonia," the Rospotrebnadzor noted.

Experts also reminded about preventive measures: it is necessary to regularly ventilate the premises, observe hygiene rules, lead a healthy lifestyle and consult a doctor at the first signs of malaise.

Earlier, on November 11, it was reported that the Rospotrebnadzor Center for Scientific Research in Epidemiology had developed a test system that could detect 25 different viruses, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This virus most often causes bronchiolitis and pneumonia, and the risk group includes infants and the elderly with chronic diseases.
