The German Ministry of Economy and Energy has demanded that Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE), a subsidiary of Gazprom, terminate the gas import deal with the Yamal LNG project. This was reported on November 11 by the newspaper Münchner Merkur (MM), citing sources.

"SEFE must stop buying LNG under the old Yamal agreement and at the same time may invoke force majeure," the publication says.

It is noted that this is actually due to the directive aimed at ending the dependence of the European Union (EU) on Russian gas, as well as the terms of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia.

On October 20, the EU Council approved the proposal of the European Commission (EC) to ban gas purchases in Russia from January 1, 2028. In addition, the EU has also decided to impose a ban on the transit of Russian gas through the union to other countries. This measure will take effect on January 1, 2026.

Meanwhile, on October 23, the EU adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia.
