Azerbaijan expresses support for Turkey after military plane crash

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after the crash of a Turkish military transport plane in Georgia and expressed his condolences. This was announced on November 11 on the official website of the Azerbaijani leader.

According to the press service, Aliev expressed his deep condolences to Erdogan over the death of the servicemen, noting that the tragedy had become a common grief for Azerbaijan and Turkey. He conveyed words of sympathy to the families of the victims and stressed his support to the "fraternal Turkish people."

Ankara thanked Azerbaijan for its support. During the conversation, the parties also noted that the relevant departments of the two states are in constant contact about the incident.

Earlier in the day, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported casualties from the plane crash. It was later noted that there were 20 military personnel on board, and search and rescue operations are continuing at the scene.
