Richard Derbyshire, ex-leader of the British band Living In A Box, has died.
Richard Derbyshire, the former leader of the British synthpop band Living In A Box, has died at the age of 65. This was reported on November 11 by the Daily Mail newspaper.
His family confirmed the musician's death, without giving a reason.
"We are all very sad, but his songs will live on," they said in an interview with the BBC television and radio company.
Darbyshire's former bandmates Critchlow and Ver also confirmed the news of the musician's demise, noting his "incredible talent."
"It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Richard Derbyshire, founder and vocalist of the band Living In A Box. He was an incredible talent — what a voice!" they wrote on Instagram (the social network belongs to Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
The band was founded in Sheffield, England in 1985. Derbyshire was the vocalist, Anthony ("Teach") Critchlow is the drummer, and Marcus Ver is the keyboard player. Their debut single, also called Living In A Box, became a worldwide hit in 1987. The other two songs reached the top 10 of the UK chart, and their 1989 single Room in Your Heart reached number five. Derbyshire left the band in 1989 after disagreements during the recording of the third album.
In 1994, he released a solo album. The band reunited in 2016 with replacement vocalist Kenny Thomas, and they are currently touring with their third vocalist, Brian Chambers. Derbyshire spent his last years in London, where he conducted songwriting seminars.
