Attackers have started using artificial intelligence (AI) for new car purchase fraud schemes. Yuri Silaev, head of the Laboratory of Trusted Artificial Intelligence at RTU MIREA, warned about this on Tuesday, November 11.

He noted that the attackers place ads for the purchase of a car, where the buyer is promised significant savings on related payments or customs clearance.

"The trick is based on artificially limiting the decision—making time, forcing a person to act quickly, without the necessary verification of information," Silaev said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

According to the expert, scammers develop scenarios, backing them up with fake documents and images generated by neural network algorithms. He warned that the greatest threat is posed by correspondence in popular messengers and social networks, where it is almost impossible to verify the seller's history and reputation, RT reports.

"The investigation of such cases is seriously hampered because criminals operate through anonymous communication channels and receive transfers to pre—prepared accounts," Silaev explained.

The specialist recommended not paying for the car until it is actually received and examined, and when ordering from abroad, he advised to involve only licensed brokers. You can also check the vehicle's history using the VIN code.

Maxim Shelkov, head of the Autocriminalist expert center, said on the same day that the main sign that the car seller is under the influence of fraudsters is his desire to sell the car faster and at a large discount.

On October 14, the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned that cybercriminals had become more active in messengers. 360.ru . They offer transportation and car purchase services from abroad.

The department noted that the attackers use the high demand for such equipment, offering citizens favorable conditions and short delivery times.

Earlier, Silaev told the Moscow city news agency that fraudsters had activated deception schemes, disguising themselves as sellers of cars of popular Chinese brands. He added that this is mass phishing, where brands of popular Chinese brands are used only as bait.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
