In Russia, they plan to soften previously proposed amendments to the Tax Code on the taxation of bookmakers, so that the tax on bets is replaced by a tax on the difference between bets and winnings. This was announced on November 11 by Alexey Sazanov, State Secretary and Deputy Finance Minister of the Russian Federation.

"Yes, there will be (a change in the wording of the first reading. — Ed.), instead of 5% of turnover, there will be 7% of the difference between the bets received and the winnings paid," he said in an interview with Interfax.

According to Sazanov, an upgraded version of the document will be proposed at the second reading of the draft amendments to the code.

In September, it was reported that there were plans to introduce a gambling tax in Russia in the amount of 5% of accepted bets for bookmakers. It was noted that the amendments to the Tax Code were intended to be introduced as part of the budget package. Additionally, it was planned to establish a profit tax for bookmakers at a rate of 25%. The Ministry of Finance explained that the new measures will allow taking into account not only the turnover, but also the profits of companies, and will also make the market more transparent.
