Six marble statues from the era of Ancient Rome were stolen from the National Museum of Damascus during a robbery that took place on Sunday night, November 9. This was reported on November 11 by the Time newspaper.

"The break—in occurred on Sunday evening and was discovered the next morning when the door to the classical painting department was found smashed, resulting in the discovery that the statues were missing," the article says.

It is noted that a total of six statues were stolen. An investigation is currently underway, and the museum is temporarily closed.

On October 19, French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati announced the robbery of the Louvre. According to her, the robbery took only a few minutes and was carried out by professionals. At the same time, Le Parisien learned about the discovery of the broken crown of Emperor Napoleon III's wife Eugenie, who, among other jewelry, was exhibited at the Apollo Gallery.

After that, on October 30, five new suspects in the Louvre robbery were detained. Paris Prosecutor Laura Becco announced a day earlier that two detainees in the Louvre robbery case had partially admitted their guilt. French President Emmanuel Macron, in turn, announced that the stolen jewelry would be returned to the Louvre. According to him, the authorities have launched a large-scale plan to revive and modernize the Louvre, and the museum's management has reviewed the security system, drawing conclusions from the incident.
