Spain's oldest resident, Angelina Torres Valbona, has died at the age of 112. This was announced on November 11 by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illia.

"I was lucky enough to meet Angelina Torres last year. She was a wise woman, full of faith and kindness, very hardworking and with great inner strength," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to RSVP Live, Torres was born on March 18, 1913 in the village of Belvis and has lived in Barcelona for most of her life. After her father's death, her family moved to the Catalan capital, where she worked at a tie factory and a milliner's studio.

According to the Longevity portal, since January 2025, she has been considered the oldest woman in Spain after the deaths of 117-year-old Maria Branhas and 113-year-old Piedad Loriente Perez. Now 111-year-old Carme Noguera Falguera from Girona has become the oldest resident of the country.

On September 25, the journal Nature reported that Spanish centenarian Maria Branhas Morera lived to be 117 years old thanks to a combination of genes and a healthy diet. It is reported that the woman died on August 19, 2024 — at the time of her death, she was recognized as the oldest person in the world. Branyas spent time with her two daughters, each of whom was over 90 years old.
