The State Duma approved the Day of the storming and capture of Konigsberg on April 9.

The State Duma has approved a new memorable date — the Day of the Heroic Assault and Capture of Konigsberg, which will be celebrated on April 9. The relevant information appeared on the website of the press service of the lower house of Parliament on November 11.

"The State Duma has adopted a law on amendments to Article 11 of the Federal Law "On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia" regarding the establishment of a new day of military glory," the article says.

The law stipulates that April 9 will be the Day of the heroic Assault and Capture of Konigsberg in 1945. As the authors of the initiative emphasized, the adoption of the document will contribute to the preservation of historical memory, patriotic education of young people and overcoming the historical isolation of the Kaliningrad region from the main territory of the country.
