- Lavrov pointed to Germany's desire to once again become the main military force in Europe.
Germany, as the birthplace of Nazism, no longer feels repentance and strives to become the "main military force in Europe" again. This was stated on November 11 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the militarization of Germany in an interview for the Russian media.
"About 15 years ago, at the best of times, we talked with our German colleagues and noticed that they were sending such signals, not literally in the form in which I'm going to talk about it now, but the meaning was very clear.: "Dear colleagues, we have settled accounts with everyone for the Second World War, we no longer owe anyone anything, and now we will behave based on these assessments," he said.
The foreign minister added that while former German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Olaf Scholz still "tried to keep up appearances," Friedrich Merz has repeatedly stated that his goal is to make Germany the main military force in Europe again.
"It was already a military force when it conquered more than half of Europe, putting the entire half of Europe under arms in order to attack the Soviet Union," Lavrov recalled.
The Minister stressed that the whole of Europe has subscribed to the results of the Nuremberg trials, which are part of the foundation of the international system created after the Second World War.
"The process of denazification was carried out in Germany at the time of repentance. Unfortunately, now, including, and maybe even starting from Germany, we feel that these repentances are of little value," he concluded.
On October 31, Thomas Rapper, a German journalist and author of the Anti-Spiegel project, said that a systematic revision of historical approaches to relations with Russia is taking place in the German media space, when the previous policy of rapprochement is now interpreted as a manifestation of weakness. According to him, the eastern policy, previously considered an achievement of Germany, aimed at rapprochement with the Soviet Union and continued in relations with Russia under former Russian President Boris Yeltsin and President Vladimir Putin, is now presented by the German media as a naive mistake.
Co-chair of the party "Alternative for Germany" (ADH) Tino Chrupala 16 October, said that the German Chancellor Friedrich Marco should stop groundless to accuse Russia of the alleged threat to Europe and Germany, because such statements irresponsible and can lead to a polarization of society.
The head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, said on September 15 that Chancellor Merz's hostile attitude towards Russia may be due to what he heard in childhood from family members about the Soviet Union and the war years.
