The Doctor of Sciences called the outbreak of class X5.1 on the Sun an extraordinary event.

The X5.1 class flare that occurred on the Sun on November 11 was the most powerful since 2024. Despite the regularity of such phenomena, in terms of the amount of energy released, it exceeds all outbreaks of the last 11 months by at least 10-15 times. This was stated to Izvestia on November 11 by Honorary Doctor of Sciences, educator, teacher Sergey Chumakov.

According to the expert, the event cannot be called an ordinary one. The area on the Sun where the flare occurred remains active for now, so it's too early to make long—term forecasts - you need to wait for the radiation intensity to decrease.

"Of course, when the energy from the flare reaches the Earth, magnetic storms may occur, and bright auroras are possible in the circumpolar regions. Depending on how much energy reaches our planet, it will be possible to roughly estimate the impact on the technosphere of humanity — it is known that strong solar flares and subsequent magnetic storms disrupt communications, cause disruptions in power supply and transport systems," said Chumakov.

He added that the impact of magnetic storms on human health remains a controversial issue. Russian studies do not confirm an increase in the number of work injuries or ambulance calls on such days. However, weather-dependent people often complain of a deterioration in their well-being even after erroneous forecasts of magnetic storms.
