Alexander Beglov, the Governor of St. Petersburg, has approved new rules for keeping and walking domestic dogs. This was announced on November 10 by Denis Chetyolbok, Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Legislative Assembly.

"The developed norms establish clear and precise rules for keeping pets in the city in order to ensure the safety of both the owners and their dogs themselves, as well as those residents of St. Petersburg who do not have pets," the deputy said in a message on the VKontakte social network.

The new rules oblige owners to clean up after their pets and walk dogs above 40 cm at the withers only on a leash and in a muzzle. The law also prohibits leaving animals unattended and bringing them to outdoor events. The owners of retail outlets independently determine the possibility of finding animals in their premises.

On October 29, the law on keeping dogs in the city was passed in the third reading in St. Petersburg. According to the documentation, the responsibilities of the dog owner include suppressing aggression from the animal towards others, preventing it from causing possible harm, as well as ensuring the cleaning of pet waste products. In addition, the new law provides for additional requirements for the maintenance of dogs.
