Sedentary work and low physical activity can lead to the appearance of a so-called "office" belly, even in people of normal weight. About this "Newspaper.Ru" was told on November 11 by Alsu Galeeva, a gastroenterologist at the SM Clinic.

According to the expert, when sitting for a long time, a "stressful pose" is formed: a person slouches, tucks his shoulders and often sits cross-legged.

"All this leads to compression of the diaphragm, the so—called "stress muscle." When her mobility is limited, respiration and lymph drainage deteriorate. In addition, blood circulation in the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs is disrupted, the center of gravity shifts, and the load on the lumbar spine increases," Galeeva explained.

She noted that this position weakens the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, which can visually add to the belly and worsen well-being.

The doctor recommends adjusting the height of the chair so that the feet are fully on the floor and the monitor screen is at eye level. According to her, it is important to get up every 30-45 minutes, warm up and take a few deep breaths that activate the diaphragm. The doctor also advises to monitor the drinking regime, not to eat in a hurry and, if possible, perform light exercises for the back and hips.

Earlier, on August 11, traumatologist and osteopath Konstantin Ternovoy reminded that in order to maintain back health during sedentary work, it is necessary to control weight and maintain a muscular corset. He also advised taking breaks for walking every hour and paying attention to choosing a comfortable work chair.
