Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) party, sharply criticized German President Frank—Walter Steinmeier, accusing him of "political stupidity." This was reported on November 10 by Welt.

The reason for her comment was Steinmeier's statements that democracy in Germany is under threat, and now it is more noticeable than ever after the unification of the country in 1990.

"This is not an abuse of power, it's just political stupidity. I'm sorry, I have to speak so bluntly," the politician said.

Wagenknecht noted that the barrier that traditional parties have created against the Alternative for Germany (AfD) does not make Germany a better place, but only leads to an increase in support for the AFD.

In her opinion, it should have reached the President of Germany long ago that there are serious disagreements between her party and the AFD. And she, as the leader of the CER, cannot support such "tactical maneuvers" to expel one of the parties from the Bundestag.

Earlier in the day, Focus Online reported that SSV leader Wagenknecht had announced her resignation. According to media reports, Wagenknecht's successor as head of the party will be German-Italian politician Fabio de Masi, who is a member of the European Parliament (EP). Amira Mohamed Ali, the former co-chairman of the CER, will help him manage, the newspaper said.

Early elections to the Bundestag were held in Germany on February 23. The CDU/CSU opposition bloc won almost 28.6% of the vote. The second place was taken by AdG with 20.8%. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) failed to enter the Bundestag. In early June, Wagenknecht and her party lost two lawsuits against the Bundestag in the Federal Constitutional Court due to the lack of a legally guaranteed opportunity to object if the party did not overcome the five percent barrier to entering parliament at the elections.
