Bloomberg has learned about the new Swiss-US tariff deal
Switzerland can conclude a favorable tariff deal with the United States at 15% within two weeks. This was reported on November 10 by Bloomberg, citing sources.
"The deal may be concluded within the next two weeks, but it may still fall through, as happened during negotiations between the United States and Switzerland at the end of July," the publication says.
The article says that past negotiations ended with Switzerland facing the highest tariff rate that the United States has ever imposed on any country.
"Since then, Switzerland has been trying to achieve more favorable terms, and it got closer to what it wanted after a meeting of a group of Swiss billionaires and corporate executives with [US President] Donald Trump in the Oval Office," the authors note.
The Tribune de Genève (TdG) newspaper wrote on November 6 that the heads of Rolex and Cartier had asked Trump to reduce duties for Switzerland. As specified, negotiations on a possible reduction in tariffs, which currently amount to 39%, were held in the Oval Office of the White House without the participation of representatives of the Swiss government. The White House guests noted that their requested meeting with Trump also conveyed to Washington the willingness of Geneva's business elite to engage in dialogue. They were convinced that a bilateral trade agreement could significantly strengthen interstate economic exchange and benefit both countries.
