Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed confidence that as long as he and US President Donald Trump are in power, Budapest will not face US sanctions against oil and gas supplies from Russia. On November 10, he wrote about this on the social network Facebook (banned in the Russian Federation, owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

"President Trump and I shook hands as a sign that Hungary will be indefinitely exempt from US oil sanctions. As long as he is the president and I am the prime minister, there will be no sanctions," Orban wrote.

He noted that the imposition of US sanctions on Russian energy resources would lead to a threefold increase in utility costs, as well as higher fuel prices. The Hungarian leader said that "this catastrophe" was avoided thanks to the meeting with Trump.

Earlier, on November 7, Orban announced that the United States had completely exempted Hungary from restrictive measures on Russian energy supplies via the Turkish Stream and the Druzhba pipeline. In addition, he added that Hungary has agreed with the American Westinghouse on the purchase of nuclear fuel.

Later, on November 8, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced that the country had received indefinite exemption from US sanctions on oil and gas supplies from Russia. He noted that those who claim the opposite were not present at the talks between American leader Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
