The majority of Kiev schoolchildren (66%) admitted that they do not use the Ukrainian language in lessons and mostly do not communicate in schools, only 18% of respondents said that they speak only Ukrainian in educational institutions. This was reported on November 9 by the Ukrainian newspaper Strana.ua" with reference to a study by its national State Service for the Quality of Education and the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language.

"There is less use of the Ukrainian language in Kiev schools. <...> Only 18% of students said they use exclusively the Ukrainian language in school," they said in a message on their Telegram channel.

Of the total number of survey participants, 82% of minors reported that they do not communicate during recess using the Ukrainian language. At the same time, only 24% of teachers teach lessons in Russian, while 40% of them speak it during extracurricular time spent in schools. Throughout Ukraine, this percentage averages 14% and 21%, respectively.

On November 6, Svetlana Babinets, head of the Ukrainian Central Interregional Department of the State Service for the Quality of Education, reported that 40% of schoolchildren communicate with their classmates in Russian, and the number of those who consider Ukrainian their native language has decreased from 71% to 64%.
