The program for strengthening Poland's state borders called the Eastern Shield requires significantly more funds than originally expected, as the project is scaling up "step by step." This was announced on November 8 by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the republic, Cesari Tomchik, in an interview with Defence24.

"The project itself has grown a lot, and the money that we expected to spend on the Vostochny Shield — 10 billion zlotys — now we already know that it will be more, much more," he said.

To date, Warsaw has spent 1 billion zloty ($270 million) on the implementation of this initiative, which has been used to build barriers and warehouses. Tomczyk added that Poland is also currently developing a comprehensive system for protection against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Tomchik announced on November 4 that his country plans to start creating a national anti-drone system within a few months, without waiting for the implementation of the initiative of the European Union (EU) member states to create a "drone wall." The Minister noted that the republic uses the new EU program for SAFE defense loans.
