The Supreme Court of Russia ruled that both parties to the conflict can be held administratively liable for a fight. This is stated in the resolution of the board for cases of administrative offenses, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti on November 10.

The reason for the consideration of the case was the complaint of a resident of Blagoveshchensk, who was fined 5,000 rubles under Article 6.1.1 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Beatings") after a conflict in the parking lot, which ended in a fight. The man claimed that he acted in self-defense because his opponent spat on his car.

"I had no choice but to defend my dignity and honor, I had to defend myself. <...> Yes, I struck, but it was self—defense," his testimony quoted in the court ruling says.

Later, the applicant changed his position, claiming that he had not struck, but had only "pushed" the victim away. At the same time, he insisted that since the second participant in the conflict was also brought to justice, the punishment for him should be lifted.

However, the Supreme Court did not agree with these arguments, pointing out that the man's actions were active, not defensive, and left the punishment unchanged.

"Mutual infliction of bodily harm does not exclude bringing to justice each of the perpetrators," the decision says.

Earlier, on October 25, a mass brawl took place in Moscow. A criminal case was opened into the fight. About 40 people were taken to the Department of Internal Affairs to check their involvement in the crime. It was reported that foreigners who are not prosecuted in the form of imprisonment will be expelled from Russia and subsequently banned from entering the country.
