The British authorities have established an inspection of electric buses of the Chinese company Yutong for the fact of their possible remote shutdown by the manufacturer. This was reported on November 9 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

The investigation was launched by representatives of the British transport Service together with employees of the national cyber Security Center after experts from Norway discovered in vehicles of those models that will run in cities such as Nottingham, South Wales and Glasgow, a program that allegedly allows you to remotely stop electric buses. This, according to Ewen Steinbank, a member of parliament from the Labour Party in Falkirk, could allegedly "pose a threat to the national security" of the country.

"The UK government is investigating whether it is possible to remotely disconnect hundreds of Chinese-made electric buses plying British roads. This is another sign of concern about Beijing's role in the country's infrastructure," the article says.

Currently, 700 vehicles have been delivered to the kingdom, but not a single one is being used by operators yet. It is emphasized that representatives of Yutong, commenting on the concerns caused by their vehicle, stated that they "strictly comply with applicable laws, regulations and industry standards." They also added that the software that attracted the attention of importers is necessary for the maintenance and optimization of machines, and all data collected is encrypted and no one has access to them without the client's permission.

On June 15, 2024, the FT also reported on British suspicions of espionage by the People's Republic of China (PRC) through army emblems for military headdresses. Then one of the high-ranking officials suggested that tracking devices or GPS transmitters could be embedded in the cockades.
