On the Spanish island of Tenerife, a huge wave crashed onto a pier where tourists were staying. As a result of the incident, three people were killed and 15 others were injured. This was reported on November 9 by the newspaper El Periodico.
The published footage shows how a powerful wave hits the two-level pier, where several people were standing, completely covering the structure. Several tourists fell into the water.
According to the newspaper, among the dead is a 79—year-old Dutch citizen who drowned off the northern coast near Puerto de la Cruz. Another victim is a resident of the municipality of La Orotava, who died after falling into the water in the area of La Guancha. The third victim is a man who drowned off the coast of Granadilla.
Local authorities reported that rescue services are continuing to survey the coastal areas of the island due to the continuing threat of high waves.
On October 20, a Russian tourist drowned in Phuket, Thailand, despite the efforts of rescuers to save his life. According to the victim's wife, her husband swam for about 30 minutes before signaling for help. As a result, rescuers found him unconscious in the water.
