In the West, the EU's disinformation center has been compared to Orwell's "ministry of Truth."

The proposal of the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen to create a new body like the "Ministry of Truth" against Russia and China speaks to the desire of the European Union (EU) to legislate censorship. This was stated on November 9 by American international lawyer, former independent expert of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Alfred de Zayas.

"Brussels' initiatives amount to the institutionalization of the censorship regime, which contradicts Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights," the expert wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Zayas compared the new body to the "ministry of truth" from George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984.
