- The Seabridge ferry returned to Turkey after the incident with the disembarkation of passengers in Sochi
The Seabridge ferry, which did not release passengers in Sochi, returned to Trabzon, Turkey. This was announced to Izvestia on November 9 by Sergey Turkmenyan, CEO of SVS-Shipping.
The flight took off from the Turkish Trabzon in Sochi on November 5 at 21:10 Moscow time. He arrived at the port on November 6 at about 9:30 a.m., but the Russian side did not receive him. There were 20 people on board.
The Sochi— Trabzon — Sochi ferry line operated from 1993 to September 2011, and then ceased operations. The resumption of the launch of the cargo and passenger ferry was discussed back in 2023, but it was possible to launch it only now.
Earlier that day, it became known that the Sea Bridge, after three and a half days of downtime at the Sochi roadstead, set off on its return journey without being allowed to enter the Russian port.
The leadership of the Krasnodar Territory reported on November 7 that the organization of a ferry service between Sochi, Russia, and Trabzon, Turkey, is impossible in the current conditions due to unresolved security issues.
Prior to this, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported that the Sea Bridge was unable to disembark passengers in Sochi due to the lack of permission to enter Russia. He performed the first flight on the Trabzon – Sochi route in 14 years. The ferry arrived in Sochi around 10:00. However, the Russian side did not accept the vessel because it did not have permission to enter the territorial waters of the Russian Federation, and the port of Sochi was closed for exercises until 12:00, but on November 7 the vessel nevertheless received permission to enter the port of Sochi.
Turkmenyan also noted that ferry passengers will be able to receive free tickets for the return trip to Turkish Trabzon as compensation. He clarified that the passengers were provided with food and comfortable accommodation in the cabins at the expense of the carrier company.
