- China has suspended a ban on the export of a number of strategic materials to the United States.
The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (PRC) has decided to suspend the ban on exports to the United States of certain strategic goods, which include chemical elements such as gallium, germanium, antimony and superhard materials. This was reported on November 9 by TASS with reference to the statement of the department.
"From the date of publication until November 27, 2026, the Ministry of Commerce's order No. 46 of 2024 is suspended," the press service of the Ministry of Commerce of China said in a statement.
It is emphasized that we are talking about a decree entitled "On strengthening export controls on relevant dual-use goods for the United States."
The Financial Times newspaper learned on September 15 that the cost of germanium, widely used in the defense industry, has risen to a record high due to restrictions imposed by Beijing on its supplies. Also, this decision, as noted in the text, led to a "desperate shortage" of supplies and pushed prices to the highest level in at least 14 years.
