- The Ministry of Internal Affairs told about the most common topics of fraudsters' ads
Fraudsters most often place fake ads related to financial services, employment, and housing and communal services, as well as distribute flyers with QR codes. This was announced on November 9 in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to TASS, one of the most common topics of fraudulent ads remains "financial services" — quick loans, profitable investments and debt repayment. Attackers often promise to help in obtaining a loan, write off debts or arrange "urgent loans at 0%."
In addition, job and part-time job ads are listed in the list of common schemes. We are talking about offers of easy earnings without experience, high payments in a short time, or jobs for students and retirees. After the response, the applicant is often required to pay for "training" or "registration".
Separately, the Interior Ministry noted fake announcements in the housing and communal services sector — about checking meters, plumbing and electrical work. In such cases, the "masters" take the payment and disappear without completing the promised services.
Another popular topic among scammers is renting or selling housing at low prices, as well as ads for the sale of household appliances, electronics and cars at suspiciously low prices.
Scammers also use the topic of social services: they promise help in obtaining benefits, compensations and subsidies. Such ads are often distributed in the form of flyers with QR codes leading to fake websites.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Interior Ministry reported that fraudsters, disguised as an employer, began requesting a passport photo from the candidate to allegedly confirm his identity. According to the agency, the attackers use courier job ads in online chat rooms to recruit accomplices. They attract candidates with promises of a free schedule, keeping silent about the criminal nature of their activities.
