British Prime Minister Keir Starmer burned in effigy
The traditional British Bonfire Night turned into a protest against the "failed government policy", in the city of Edenbridge, residents burned an effigy of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Footage of the incident on November 9 is published by Izvestia.
"The participants of the fire show today burned not only the figure of Guy Fawkes, the conspirator who tried to blow up parliament 420 years ago, but also Prime Minister Keir Starmer," journalist Anna Zhikhareva told Izvestia.
Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated annually to commemorate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, when a group of Catholic conspirators tried to blow up the English Parliament in London on the night of November 5, 1605. Guy Fawkes, whose effigy the British burn on holiday, was the main participant in the conspiracy.
On September 28, it was reported that more than half of the Labor Party members did not want Starmer to run in the next election as party leader. The survey, which was attended by 1,254 party members between September 23 and 25, also showed dissatisfaction with the general direction of government activities.: 65% said that Starmer is moving in the wrong direction.
