- Patriarch Kirill dismissed the exarch of Western Europe because of the ecclesiastical court
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), Patriarch Kirill, dismissed Metropolitan Nestor from the management of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Western Europe. This was announced on November 8 by the press service of the Russian Orthodox Church.
"Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe has been removed from the administration of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Western Europe, as well as the Korsun, Spanish-Portuguese dioceses and parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy," the statement said.
This decision was made in connection with the church trial that began against the metropolitan. The reasons for the trial were not disclosed. The management of these structures is temporarily entrusted to Metropolitan Mark of Ryazan and Mikhailovsky.
Earlier, on July 25, 2024, Metropolitan Hilarion of the Budapest-Hungarian Diocese, who was accused of harassment, was removed from the diocese by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe, was temporarily assigned to lead the diocese.
On July 17, 2024, it was reported that Metropolitan Hilarion was accused of harassment by cell attendant Gregory Suzuki and, presumably, his mother Veronica.
