Slovakia opposed the use of Russian assets for Ukraine
Slovakia does not intend to participate in the confiscation of frozen Russian assets by the European Union (EU) countries for their subsequent transfer to Ukraine. This was announced on November 8 by Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"Slovakia, as long as I am prime minister, will not participate in any legal or financial mechanisms aimed at confiscating frozen assets and using them as military expenses in Ukraine," Pravda quoted him as saying.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the European Commission was unable to convince the Belgian government to agree to use frozen Russian assets to issue a loan to Ukraine. At the same time, the Belgian side stated that it had not received sufficient guarantees of protection from possible financial and legal consequences that may arise from the unfreezing of Russian funds.
