- The State Department announced the signing of a memorandum on the peaceful atom by the United States and Hungary.
The United States and Hungary have signed a memorandum of understanding on nuclear energy. This was reported on November 7 on the website of the press service of the US State Department.
"The memorandum indicates our intention to begin negotiations on the development of cooperation in the civil nuclear industry, including small modular reactors (MMR) and spent fuel storage facilities," the publication says.
The press service added that this is necessary in order to make Budapest the center of the developing MMR market in Central Europe. According to the ministry, the Hungarian side intends to support the construction of up to 10 small modular reactors. Their cost will be up to $20 billion.
